It’s official: No spring football in Big Ten

The Big Ten suspended all organized team activities until at least April 6 to minimize the risk of spreading the coronavirus, the conference announced Friday.

While the conference announced the cancellation of all conference and non-conference competitions through the end of the academic year, the latest announcement covers events such as spring football practices.

The decision will be re-evaluated after that date.

The conference also halted all on- and off-campus recruiting activities “for the foreseeable future,” the conference said in a news release.

Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan were among the programs that already had canceled their spring games.

“The main priority of the Big Ten Conference continues to be the health, safety and wellness of our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, fans and media as we continue to monitor all developing and relevant information on the COVID-19 virus,” the conference said.
